Cookie policy
One cookie makes the site remember your choice. Everything else is set only with your permission, and you can change your mind at any time.
This policy explains how Made Digital UK Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on this website. It sits alongside our privacy policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.
Our use of cookies is governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and, where a cookie involves personal data, the UK GDPR.
1. Change your mind
You don’t need to accept anything to use this site. The sheet you saw on your first visit lets you accept or reject analytics, and “Cookie settings” in the footer of every page reopens it, so you can review or withdraw your choice whenever you like.
You can also clear or block cookies in your browser. See your browser’s own controls below.
2. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a website places on your device. Sites use them to work, to remember your preferences and to tell the site’s owner how it’s used. In this policy “cookie” also covers similar technologies such as pixels, tags and local storage.
A “session” cookie is deleted when you close your browser; a “persistent” one stays until it expires or you delete it. A cookie set by this site is “first-party”; one set by a service we use is “third-party”.
3. How consent works here
The consent sheet is our own, built and run by Made Digital. On your first visit it asks whether analytics cookies may be set. Nothing non-essential is set until you say yes.
Strictly necessary cookies don’t need consent, because the site can’t work properly without them. Here that’s one cookie: the one that remembers your answer.
Your choice is stored on your own device, and you can change or withdraw it at any time from the footer.
4. Counting taps and form steps, without cookies
When someone taps a button to ring, email or WhatsApp Made Digital, this website adds one to a daily count for that page, kept on the website’s own server.
The forms are counted the same way: how many are started, which step people reach, where they stop and how many are sent. Where someone stops is the name of the last box they touched, such as “phone”, never what they typed in it. The demo on the Trade Site page is counted too: the steps people take through it, never the name they give their business.
That is all it keeps. No cookie is set, and nothing that could identify you or your device is stored. The counts are used only to see which pages bring enquiries and where the forms lose people, so the site can be improved. The law allows this without asking first, as long as you can say no.
To say no, press “Don’t count my taps” below. This browser will remember it, and a browser that sends a Global Privacy Control signal is never counted.
This browser’s taps are being counted. This browser’s taps are not being counted.
If you accepted analytics as well, Google Analytics also sees these steps, as the same counts with nothing you typed. Rejecting analytics stops that, and leaves the cookieless count to the button above.
5. The cookies this site sets
Names and durations can change as the services behind them are updated. This list is checked whenever the site is.
Strictly necessary
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
md-consent | Made Digital | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics, so the sheet doesn’t reappear on every visit. | 1 year |
md-count (local storage, not a cookie) | Made Digital | Set only if you press “Don’t count my taps”, so that your no is remembered. Nothing else is in it. | Until you press “Count them again” or clear it |
Analytics, only with your consent
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor from another, so the site’s use can be measured. | 2 years |
_ga_<id> | Google Analytics | Keeps the state of a Google Analytics 4 session. | 2 years |
_gid | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor from another over a short period. | 24 hours |
_clck | Microsoft Clarity | Keeps the Clarity user ID and session settings, so page views in one session link up. | 1 year |
_clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Connects the page views within one Clarity session. | 1 day |
Neither Google Analytics nor Microsoft Clarity runs until you’ve accepted analytics through the sheet. Google Analytics is set to anonymise IP addresses.
Marketing
None. The sheet has a marketing toggle because the consent record has a place for one, but no marketing or advertising cookie is set by this site today. If that changes, this policy and the sheet will say so first.
6. About Microsoft Clarity
As well as cookies, Clarity may record anonymised session replays and heatmaps: where the mouse moved, what was clicked, how far a page was scrolled. That helps us see where the site is confusing.
It’s collected only with your consent, processed under Microsoft’s own privacy terms, and Clarity’s default masking hides what’s typed into forms, so what you write to us isn’t captured in a recording.
7. Your browser’s own controls
Every browser lets you see, delete and block cookies. Help for the common ones:
Blocking the strictly necessary cookie means the sheet will ask you again on each visit, and nothing else breaks. The ICO’s general guidance on cookies is at ico.org.uk.
8. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There’s no agreed standard for how a site should respond to it, so this site relies on the consent sheet instead, which does the same job more plainly: nothing non-essential is set unless you say so.
9. Changes to this policy
If the cookies this site sets change, this page changes with them, with a new date at the top. A change that needs a fresh decision from you is asked for through the sheet, not assumed.
